We started work on the bar doing plies, battlement tondu, battlement glissee and round de jambe a terre. I need to work on getting my heels down quicker when doing plies especially from first position. after the barre work we then split off into our two groups again, the experienced group went off with Marshall and we learnt an enchainment and performed it to the other group. I need to work on my arabesque and glissees next time.
13/09/18
Singing
At the start of the lesson we warmed up around the piano and work for our breathing. we did a variety of different decided focused on holding breath and sustaining notes. We then worked on pronunciation doing many exercises revolving around vowel sounds.
Jazz
At the beginning of the lesson we were asked to write out 3 things we want to improve on in jazz and 3 things we are already good at. For my 3 improvements I chose: flexibility, technique and confidence. For my 3 strengths I chose: good energy, good performance and good at picking up choreography. We warmed up and stretched, followed by some centre work and finished with corner work.
17/09/18
Singing
Started using the same exercises from the previous lesson focusing on breathing and vowel sounds. We then sang through the song natural woman by Carole King and experimented with solo lines and group harmonies.
20/09/18
Jazz
We did a basic jazz warmup to begin and then stretched out, after this we started corner work and centre combinations with kicks and turns. Shannon shower just a couple of combinations which we then learnt to show her our technique. After this we learnt a quick paced jazz routine which highlighted our skills and stamina.
Musical Theatre
We began by recapping what we have learnt the week before the one short day piece. We then learnt more of one short day and began developing characters with the second years by doing some acting exercises.
Singing
We started by doing the same breathing warmup exercises but specifically focusing on sustaining notes so we were prepared for the long note at the beginning of the song one short day. We then learnt the song Do Ray Mi from the Sound of Music to add to our repertoire so we could use it to warm up, as the song ascends up in a scale so it is good for warming up. we then sang through one short day and me and Leah, who are playing the lead roles of Glinda and Elphaba learnt the harmonies for our duet parts.
24/09/18
Singing
We began the lesson by doing our usual warmup, we then proceeded to sing one short day and learn the wizomania section. After we had polished the wizomania section by working on our pronunciation and timing, we listened to the second years sing audition pieces and gave some constructive criticism.
26/09/18
Ballet
At the beginning of the lesson we talked about some ballet theory and then moved on to doing barre work. we did all of our usual part exercises and I was given some corrections to work on. I need to work on keeping my weight over my feet and my posture needs to improve, so that I can hold myself up and keep my ankles strong. I especially need to work on my posture in exercises involving jumps and turns on demi pointe. we then came into the centre and practised our glissades on both sides of the room, which is more developed from the previous weeks where we have only done it on the right. When doing glissades I need to remember to pliƩ in derriere and devonne.
27/09/18
Jazz
We warmed up with a high energy Zumba style warmup. After we warm we moved on to centre were doing par de bourrees with turns and pirouettes. I need to improve my spotting to make sure that I can get round quicker on my pirouettes. We then went up to the far corner and did kick and turn combinations coming down the room.
Singing
We warmed up with the song Do Ray Mi and the vowel sound exercises. We then sang all the way through one short day for times and then we learnt the song somewhere from West side story. We learnt the song, as it has a high range which is good practice to see if we are capable of singing the song.
1/10/18
Singing
This lesson we warmed up in our usual way with you every week; breathing, vowels and Do Ray Mi. We then went on to practice one short day until the end of the lesson.
3/10/18
Ballet
We began the lesson by doing our usual warmup on the barre, however this time we added frappes, which we hadn’t learnt before. I need to work on striking the floor with the ball of my foot first. We then moved into the middle and did glissades on both sides and our arm warm ups through first, second and fifth position. We worked on our first arabesques and put it into a combination. We then finished with our reveronnes.
4/10/18
Jazz
We warmed up in our usual way we do each week and stretched out. After stretching we moved on to corner work and centre combinations with kicks, turns and leaps. Our lesson was cut short today as we needed time to practice our induction piece for musical theatre.
Singing
We warmed up by singing Do Ray Mi and Somewhere. We then sang one short day and practised the harmonies and selected the best backing track we could find that tailored to our performance.
8/09/18
Singing
We warmed up again by singing Do Ray Mi and somewhere from the Sound of Music and Westside story. We then sang through one short day a few times to make sure we knew what we were doing for the performance.
10/10/18
Ballet
We started the lesson by doing our usual barre work, glissades on both sides, our arm exercises for first, second and fifth position and then we worked on Sissones and put them into a combination. I need to polish my sissones and make them sharper. We finished with our reverones.
11/10/18
Jazz
We warmed up and stretched out to work specifically on our flexibility. We did partner exercise stretch ourselves and push our flexibility. We then learnt a lyrical routine and I noticed I need to work on leg extension.
Singing
We did our usual warm up and then discussed our performance and how we could improve for next time. As a group we need to work on projection. We then finished by singing Titanium, Stand by me, Somewhere and Do Ray Mi.

Singing
This lesson we started by warming up; doing some scales on over sounds and tongue twisters. We then learnt the song “I get a kick out of you” from “Anything Goes”. The song can now be added to my personal repertoire for auditions. I loved the song as it was a style that I don’t usually sing.
Jazz
To begin this lesson we started by doing a fitness warmup to get our heart pumping for a hard core jazz lesson. We began by learning a dance to “From now on” from “The Greatest Showman”. I found the dance hard to pick up but easy to perform and hide my mistakes. Next time, I need to work on picking up the choreography quicker.
Musical theatre
Today in musical theatre we sat with Shannon and discussed what our next performance piece would be. Shannon has chosen “Cinema Italiano” from “Nine the musical”. We started to choreograph it and learn the staging. I love the song!! It is sassy and fun to perform and is a style of dance I haven’t tried before. I need to work on developing a character and feeling more confident with the movements.
05/11/18
Singing
To begin in singing today we started by warming up. We used a breathing exercise to help us have better control over our breath and help is learn how to sustain long notes. We then worked on “I get a Kick out of you”. We perfected the melody and made sure we knew the words so that we all felt confident performing it. After this we listened to Dylan, one of the second years, sing a potential auditions song. We had to give him our thoughts and any constructive advice. This was helpful for me as I was able to see what makes a good audition song and how to chose an audition song.
7/11/18
Ballet
Today in ballet we specifically worked on our 2nd arabesque. I need to work on getting my back leg straight and keeping my weight forward to so don’t fall over.
8/11/18
Singing
Today in singing we went straight into practising our repertoire songs. Charlie told us that next week we would be performing one of the songs we had been learning in class to him, so that he could understand our vocal range better and see how often we practise singing.
Jazz
This lesson we had Tracy teaching us. We did a hard core zumba/ fitness warm up. This prepared us for the street/ hip hop style dance we did after wards. The dance was fast pace, yet I found it easy to pick up and felt my performance was a success.
Musical Theatre
Today we continued with the cinema Italiano routine. I developed more confidence this lesson and had retained what we had learnt in the lesson previously. I am really enjoying the dance so far and even got to sing my lines this week, so I have become more familiar with what I am singing.
12/11/18
Singing
This singing lesson Charlie listened to each one of us sing one of the song a we had been learning in class. I decided to sing “Do Ray Mi” as I felt it showed off my upper range well. I told charlie how often that I practise singing, which is everyday, and I got good feedback about my performance of the song. I found this lesson helpful as it showed me what i need to work on and how important practise is for your voice.
14/11/18
Ballet
This lesson we worked on our arabesque again and identified the differences between 1st and 2nd arabesque. We also learnt wha Jetes are. A Jete is a type of jump. We watched Marshall and Mandy both demonstrate what a Jete should look like.
15/11/18
Singing
In singing today Charlie told us that we were going to be recording a christmas song to put in our college Ecard to be sent to all the staff. We looked at 2 different songs: Silent Night and 12 Days of Christmas. Silent Night in my opinion sounded the best and worked to best as a group and the 12 Days of Christmas made us confused. We spilt each line and this made some people miss their cue and forget their line.
Jazz
Today we warmed up focusing on flexibility, we stretched out our legs and had a go at doing the splits. I need to work on my splits as I am nearly flat to the floor on my right leg. We then went back to the “From now on” choreo and performed it in smaller groups. I think I did okay but I need to work on making my moves sharper.
Musical Theatre
We carried on with “Cinema Italiano” and Shannon choreographed my solo lines. I love my moves that I’ll be doing, I feel confident and sassy while doing them. I also picked them up quickly.
19/11/18
Singing
This lesson we warmed up with the second years and then listened to them sing their potential audition songs. This was helpful for us as we were able to learn how they picked their songs and why, this helped me understand what makes a successful song.
21/11/18
Ballet
To begin in ballet we started by doing an informal warm up. We ran around the room skipping and jumping to get ourselves warm and ready for barre. We then went to the barre and did our usual warmups: plies, battement tondu, battement glisse, battement frappe and grand battement. We then started working on our adage, which contained 1st and 2nd arabesque. We practised this till the end of the lesson.
22/11/18
Singing
Today we each came up with a warm up, we had to teach it to everyone else and then we worked on Silent Night. We split into 2 groups and added harmonies. We then sang “Somewhere” from West side story. I found the song easy to sing as it is a high song, that mostly uses head voice. I feel that my head voice is very strong, so this song worked for me personally.
Jazz and Musical Theatre
Our 2 lessons were merged together today so that we could rehearse “Cinema Italiano”. We began by warming up, Shannon chose a few of us to lead the warmup. Ghazall did the cardio section, I did strengthening, Tili did working out the joints and Marshall did stretching. We then moved onto finishing “Cinema Italiano”. We worked at a fast pace and at first I found it hard to pick up the moves. However as we went on and continued going over the moves I started to feel love comfortable with the choreography. The dance is now finished and we are ready for our performance next week. I am excited to perform this, as I love the dance and think I can put food energy into it so it’s exciting for an audience to watch.

Today we sang through “Cinema Italiano” so that we were confident with it for our performance that afternoon.
Jazz and Musical Theatre
Our lessons were merged together again today as we had a shorter lesson due to our performance in the afternoon. We went over “Cinema Italiano” as many times as we could, whilst Shannon gave us small and last minute corrections and advice before our performance. My advice was the be confident and sing up.
3/12/18
Singing
Today Charlie told us we would be recording Silent Night on Thursday. So we warmed up doing our vowel sounds and bella mama and then rehearsed Silent Night, making sure our harmonies were perfect.
5/12/18
Ballet
In ballet today we began by doing our barre work. I was given some feedback from Mandy to keep my weight forward not back in my heel, this helped me with my balance. Mandy asked me to take my hand off the barre so that I could see how much balance was required to work at the barre. Then we worked on our adage containing 1st and 2nd arabesque and Mandy told us that we had to have it perfect by the end of term.
6/12/18
Singing
Today we warmed up quickly and then got in a formation around the recoding microphone so that we would record Silent Night. We did 2 takes and the listened to it back inside to booth. Charlie then suggested we do one more take to make sure it was perfect, as the second years may use it in their christmas production.
Jazz and Musical theatre
Again our classes were put together as it was our last lesson of the term. We then played a game to help with our confidence. We sat in a circle and had to pick 5 numbers between 1-15 and when Shannon called our our number we had to go into the middle on our own and dance to a random song with a stimulus. This made me so nervous at first but as soon I got up to do it I felt so confident and ready to dance
09/01/19
Ballet
Today we began by doing our barre exercises: plies, battement tondu, battement glisse, rond de jambe, battement frappe and grande battement. I worked on using my corrections that Mandy had given me last term. We then started a new exercise called the turn out exercise. We lay on the floor and turn out our legs from the hip with bent and straight legs. His is great for turn out as you can feel where it comes from in the joint. We then learnt about different types of Allegro. We learnt Petit Allegro and Grand Allegro: small and fast, bigger and drawn out. We also learnt the difference between musical Allegro ( fast ) and dance Allegro ( jump ). We then moved into the centre and learnt the Pas de chat, which I had already done in my previous dance training.
10/01/19
Singing
In singing today we warmed up doing our breathing exercises and vowel sounds. We did the exercises up different types of scales so that we could understand how to pitch the notes on different scales. We then started work on the prologue from “Little Shop of Horrors”. I have done this song before in a show case at my dance school so I already knew the song and lyrics. We worked on 3 part harmonies, I was on the highest harmony with Alex and Rina. We worked out when we would join in singing with the 3 girls to make the sound fuller and when we came in on certain lines.
Jazz
To warmup today in jazz we did a hardcore fitness warmup with alt of cardio. I found this hard work but it got me warm for the class ahead. We then did a tondu exercise. I need to transfer my weight so that I don’t loose my balance. We also did some kicks aiming for above 90 degrees. I need to work on my strength and flexibility to get my leg higher in the air. From doing the turns exercise I realised I need to work on my jazz 4th position and my double turns. We then did an arm coordination exercise with 4 different arm variations. I found this easy but then we started to move across the room, walking and I found this slightly more challenging but I could still do the exercise with alt of concentration. We then transferred this to the other side to confuse us. I managed to pick up the moves easier than I expected. We then moved onto working from the corner of the room and bringing it across and down the space. We did inward and outward turns and pirohouttes, I think this went well for me as I think turns are my strongest jazz technique. To finish the lesson we did a short combination going from each top corner of the room on both out left and right. The combination contained everything we had been working on that lesson: kicks and turns, with a hitch kick to complicate it more. I found this class challenging but really fun as I got to try out some new techniques.
Musical Theatre
In todays lesson we began by sitting down and discussing last term and our progress and feelings towards it. We then set 3 targets for ourselves on reflection of last term: Become more confident in dance, Work on my flexibility and Push myself more in class. We then talked abut auditioning and what to prepare for an audition and any fears we have about entering the industry. We then discussed our new piece we would be working on over the term: "When you're an Addams" from "The Addams Family". We started casting and I was really pleased that the 2nd years would be playing the Addams family and we would be the dead ancestors. I love the show and the song so I was very happy we would be working on this piece. Shannon told us we could construct whatever kind of character we want and make them animated so that their story of how they died was clear. We started to learn the choreography and it contains lots of sharp and shaky moves to look like we are waking up from the grave. I need to work on my charter and exploring who they were before they died.
14/01/19
Singing
Today in singing we warmed up and started to learn skid row and which parts we would all be signing. I got to sing my solo lines and work out the timing and how me and Alex would sing the final part together over the ensemble. We then sang through Little Shop of Horrors and Some where over the rainbow.

Ballet
In todays lesson before we warmed up or did the turnout exercise we had to set ourselves a few targets for the lesson, which we would stick on the wall next to the barre we were working at so that we could see them the whole time we were working at the barre. We then did our barre exercises keeping the targets in mind. We then briefly looked at notation in ballet which was very complicated. For the remainder of the lesson we worked on our arabesque sequence in first, second and third. I wasn't present when my class learnt third arabesque however I has done it before at my ballet lessons outside of school.
24/01/19
Singing
Today we only has one lesson as we went to see Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time. We sang through all of our songs we have been working on in class and then all the songs we had worked on so far from Little Shop of Horrors.

Jazz
In todays lesson we began by doing a hard core fitness regime. We worked specifically on stretches to increase our flexibility. We did pas de bourrees in the centre and balanced on one leg in fondu. Also, open pas de bourree with single and double pirouette both in the centre and from the corner. The corner work also consisted of front , side and back kicks, as well as swish and flick leaps. Then for fun and to see if we could attempt them we tried turning leaps with attitude back leg. I need to work on the difference between my 2 types of leaps and also my elevation off the ground when leaping. I felt that todays lessons was really challenging and that in the lessons to come I need to retain my technique better so that I can keep improving.
Musical Theatre
I missed last weeks class so I was slightly behind o the dance and had missed the most dance orientated section. my class mates taught me what I had missed whilst Shannon taught the second years their group section at the beginning of the song. I picked up the moves really quick and slotted into my place a lot easier than I had expected to. We continued choregraphing the dance and we managed to finish it by the end of the lesson, we end at the front of the stage surrounding the Addams family in a heap of dead corpses. I worked a lot on my character this week and tried to put more expressions into my performance.

Singing
Today in singing we ran through Little shop of Horrors.
Jazz
In jazz today we did the same hardcore fitness warm up we always do but this time focusing on strengthening and flexibility. We attempted y stands and wall splits which I really struggled with. We then came into lines in the centre and did an exercise swinging forward and sideways with jumps. I enjoyed this warmup and it challenged me to keep myself balancing when we rose up onto demi point before swinging our arms down. After this we then did a few travelling sequences including: pas de bourree turning and straight, circular spring with side ways step ball change, triple runs with arms throwing down in retirre position, step kicks with hitch kick and pas de bourree turning and triple runs with single and double pirrohoutes. Over all this lesson I realised I need to work on my flexibility, this was evident in my lack of enthusiasm and effort into the y stands and splits.
Musical Theatre
We recapped the dance for anyone who wasn't in the previous week and missed the ending of the dance. We then went through and polished any bits of the dance that looked messy and out of time. We worked closely on the line dance section as it has to be perfectly in time and seamless. We went over the moves and broke them down so we would hear the beats easier in the music and knew when to do each move. Then we went through the dance a few times so we were confident. After this we discussed possible costume ideas: grey, black or white ripped an dirty clothes so that it loos like we dies a long time ago and have been in the ground.
11/02/19
Singing
Today in singing we warm up and then went through all of our songs we are using in our Little Shop of Horrors performance.
Ballet
In ballet today we has Marshall teach us. I really enjoyed his lesson overall. We began by doing our usual turn out exercise and then we one onto the barre. We started with plies and then moved onto tondues. Followed by Glisses, Frappes, Rond De Jambe and Grande battement. We then came into the centre and practised our 1st, 2nd and 3rd arabesque. We then did pirroheutes and petit allegro, along with an allegro containing glisses and jetes. To Finnish the lesson we came across the room doing leaps and pirroheutes falling forward.

Jazz
Today we began by doing our hardcore warm up to focus on strengthening and stretching. We then moved on to our centre work: we did kicks in the centre and 5 combinations including: pas de bourres, kicks, turns, leaps and back bends. We moved onto some floor work and then finished with corner work focusing on change in speed and change in direction.
Musical Theatre
We ran through Addams Family a few times and then polished the line dance section. After this we looked at different karaoke versions of the song in different keys so that we could find a track that works best for us. Then for the remainder of the lesson we worked on 'I hope I get it' from Chorus Line.
04/03/19
Singing
Today in singing we worked on 'When you're an Addams' with the second years so that we were ready for our performance next week. We then went through it a few times with the movement.

Today in ballet we had Marshall and Faith teach us.

Singing In todays lesson we had the second years join us so that we could go through 'When you're an Addams'. We then went through our long we are working on as first years: 'Opening Up' from Waitress. We added some new harmonies and have parts to the people who missed the last rehearsal.
Jazz
We started today jazz lesson by doing a full warmup but not as hard core as we usually do because today we were going to try and learn 2 routines. We started by learning a contemporary jazz routine to 'Bury a Friend' by Billie Eilish. I found the routine challenging as it was fast and the movements needed to be sharp. But I enjoyed doing it as I love the song and I loves the moves that Shannon had put together. After we performed the dance in small groups we started learning a vogue routine to 'Sushi' by MERK and Kremont. I loved this routine and found it fairly easy to pick up but found the timing difficult. I felt confident performing the routine.
Musical theatre
In MT today we went thought the Addams family dance and then we showed the second years and Shannon 'Little Shop of Horrors'. It went well and the only feedback we received was to be confident and project when singing and talking.
11/03/19
Singing
Today in singing with Charlie we began by warming up around the piano focusing on vowel sounds and scales to warm up our vocal chords. In todays lesson we focused on 'When You're an Addams' to prepare for our performance on Wednesday. We sang through the song with the second years at the piano so we could note bash it to ensure we were hitting the correct notes and singing in the correct key. This was really beneficial as when it came to singing with the backing track we sounded in key and were able to pitch it perfectly. We sang through the song once at the piano and then sang through with the backing track. Charlie then asked us to perform the whole number with the dance moves. He sat at the front and we performed the song to him making sure we projected our voices enough so he could hear. After we had practised a few times, Charlie said we could hear every word we were singing and that the routine looked slick and he was excited to see our performance on Wednesday.
